I've Got A Bad Case Of Loving You

Bella stood next to her truck in the school parking lot, her eyes glancing over in Edward's direction occasionally. Something about him made her uncomfortable, but she couldnt quite figure out what it was. Well until a van came sliding on some black ice and barreling towards her. Then faster then she could blink, she was shoved safely down on the ground and Edward Cullen was crouched in front of her holding the full weight of the car away from her. He wasn’t human was her immediate thought but before she could ask or even say a quick thanks, Edward was gone again. In a flash and people came around the car to check on Bella, smothering her in worry but she knew it also meant that nobody but her had seen what Edward did.

Bella sat on the edge of the hospital bed, her feet swinging impatiently. She’d already told everyone that she was fine, besides she hated hospitals but her father refused to let her leave until she was checked out properly.

“How are we doing today miss Swan?”

Bella sighed in relief that she hadnt had to wait long and turned to face the doctor when she froze. He was a beautiful man in a classy kind of way and looked young to be a doctor. His smile was genuine, as was the worry in his eyes as he waited patiently for her reply. “I..I’m fine.” She cleared her throat and thoughts away, slightly embarrassed by her own ogling.

“Well let me check you just in case. I’m Carlisle Cullen by the way.” Carlisle smiled kindly, his hand sliding across her head to feel for any bumps or tender spots.

“Cullen? As in Edwards’s dad?”

“That’s right. You know my son?” Carlisle asked while checking her blood pressure.

“Yeah, we have science together.”

“Well, I hope you two get along. Edward needs more friends. He’s a bit of a loner.” Carlisle wrote some things down on his clipboard and then tucked it under his arm. “Everything seems to be fine, Miss Swan, but sometimes the shock can hit you later. So just to be safe, please go home and rest. Maybe take a day off tomorrow. I can come by your house, or you can come by the hospital again so I can make sure there’s no pain or anything from a later injury. Like whiplash, for example. It’s usually most noticeable the day after.”

Charlie shook the doctor's hand. “Thanks, Doc. If you can, please drop by the house. I’ll have to work tomorrow, so I don’t know what time I would be able to get her here.”

“Understood, Chief. I’ll do that.” Carlisle shakes his hand, then turns to Bella. “I’ll see you tomorrow, my dear.”

“Yeah, thanks, Doctor Cullen.” Bella blushed again and admonished herself for continuously being so flustered by this man.

Bella watched Carlisle turn to walk away but not before flashing her a smile that felt like it answered the question currently in her head. He did know she was checking him out.

“Fuck...” She groaned quietly; his chuckle was the last thing she heard until her father started helping her stand.

“Let’s get you home, Bells.”

“Thanks, Dad.” She held his hand and followed him out to his car.

The car ride home was quiet, which she was thankful for. Charlie picked up her food on the way home, the only conversation they had. When they arrived home, Charlie followed her upstairs to her room. He even tucked her in like she was a kid again before kissing her on the head and leaving her to get some rest.

Bella never went into shock, but the whole event had worn her out more than she realized because the moment she finished eating, she fell asleep.

When her eyes next opened, it was morning the next day, and when she sat up, the movement was immediately followed by pain.

Her hand reaching for her hip and lifting her shirt. A large purple bruise marred her skin. “Fuck. From when I fell on my ass, I guess.”

A soft knock from downstairs caught her attention, and Bella groaned as she stood. It was a slow walk to the front door, but there was never another knock. She opened the door to see that it was Carlisle waiting.

“Good afternoon, Miss Swan. Can I come in?”
